
The aim of 'Keep Fit With Yoga' is to benefit children the world over; to making children into balanced, caring, nurturing adults so that all may discover and achieve the highest potential within.
How did 'Keep Fit With Yoga' come into being?
The reason for the idea of doing yoga for children and the start of the venture into producing 'Keep Fit With Yoga' was due to the fact of the positive impact Bihar School of Yoga had on my life and on the lives of other adults around me.
I had been practicing the Bihar School of Yoga / Satyananda Yoga for some years, after having practiced yoga taught by many other yoga teachers of other schools of yoga from a young age.
Introduced to Bihar School of Yoga in my mid 20s, a difference was noticed immediately. I felt the experience at many and all levels. For the first time in my life i felt i was actually doing yoga!
Although i had been practicing what seemed to pass off as yoga for many years. It was plainly apparent i had been doing nothing of the sort!
The total mind/body experience with Bihar School of Yoga was undeniable.
This not only lasted, but increased and developed with me - as my needs changed and i grew and developed over time, so did the yoga i did with Bihar School of Yoga.
This form of yoga grew as i grew. My growth was supported. I did not feel separate to or apart from this yoga. My understanding and way of life improved. I did not feel at any time that i reached a point where i felt stuck, unable to move on. Never.
When i looked around - in India, and elsewhere in the world - i noticed it wasn't just me, others around me felt the same way. Each one felt benfitted, healthier, stronger in all ways, kinder, more compassionate, wiser, they seemed to match what i was getting out of yoga.
With Bihar School of Yoga, Swami Satyananda has developed a system of yoga using traditional yoga and yogic science and knowledge that grows with us and develops within us constantly.
For the first time i felt that this is yoga. This is what i have been looking for. This is what is helping me. Bihar School of Yoga gave me life skills which could be used in every day life on a day to day basis.
When eventually my child was 2 years old, the thought occured as a vague idea and then with a steadily growing conviction that Bihar School of Yoga can help my child - help other children too with their lives.
What better way can a child equip herself or himself with in life?
Yoga helps us in life, in every area and field.
Some children are fortunate to have loving, caring parents with the welfare and future of their children in mind and in sight.
Not all children come under this category.
What about children who do not have this?
The thought occured to me that this yoga, Bihar School of Yoga, Swami Satyananda could help children from all backgrounds, all walks of life.
If adults could be helped, why not children?
Children practicing Bihar School of Yoga would grow up to be balanced, nurturing adults no matter what kind of life they had. No matter what life had dealt them with, if children practiced Bihar School of Yoga of Swami Satyananda's and Swami Niranjan's they would grow up fine, solid individuals able to live well anywhere and everywhere.
By 'living well' is meant that the ability to be confident, secure, independant, making the right choices and surrounding herself or himself with the right environment/lifestyle for a balanced, positive, healthy, prosperous, wise life - learning, growing and developing to be the best we can be. Happy to be who we are. Helping one another.
"Harmonizing head, heart and hands".
What is meant by this is?:
Right thought, right feeling, right action.
On a visit to Munger, Bihar School of Yoga ashram to Swami Satyananda, after thinking that could a video or something like it be developed for children teaching Bihar School of Yoga? This idea was broached to Swami Satyananda and he said that yes, it was a very good idea, do it and to ask Swami Niranjan for advice and guidance with this project.
This left me stunned with my heart in my mouth.
Little did i think that it would be left to me to develop and produce. Quite happy and content with the thought that once having made the suggestion, someone else would be delegated to developing and producing it.
Time spent at the Bihar School of Yoga with Paramahamsa Satyananda Saraswati and Paramahamsa Niranjanananda Saraswati, their guidance, blessings and love are responsible for the production of 'Keep Fit With Yoga'.
'Asana, Pranayama, Mudra, Bandha' by Paramhamsa Satyananda Saraswati and the revised edition by Paramhamsa Niranjanananda Saraswati has been the reference for all the yoga presented in 'Keep Fit With Yoga'.
A two year old girl's fascination with multi-media, encouragement (command) from the Guru then started the trek towards producing 'Keep Fit With Yoga' as a cd-rom.
Yoga courses, a variety of courses and yogic studies, ashram lifestyle and Teacher training courses for the teaching of yoga are available at the Bihar School of Yoga, Ganga Darshan and degree courses at the university, Bihar Yoga Bharati, Munger, Bihar, India and at Rikhia, where Paramahamsa Satyananda is has also been established as an Akhara and Ashram; the co- university is also coming up there, in Rikhia;
Yoga courses, studies, degrees and teacher training are also undertaken at Satyananda Ashrams and Satyananda Academy in other parts of the world.
